About this place
Diners who tried the brothless tantanmen have singled out the chives, brightened with vinegar. The dish is available in regular and large portions for ¥1,000. Experiences of its heat and numbing spice vary: one diner did not find it numbing, while another found both the spice and numbing sensation pronounced. Extra heat and extra numbing spice are each available for ¥100, offering a way to adjust the intensity.
The broth-based tantanmen costs ¥1,050 and also comes in regular and large portions. One visitor found a savoury shrimp flavour beneath the heat, with the sweetness of fried onions adding contrast. Coriander can be added to the brothless version for ¥150; the toppings list also includes a soft-boiled egg, extra meat and bean sprouts. The menu says that both brothless tantanmen and I-pin nenmen are available to take away in either size.
Another option, I-pin nenmen, has been praised by one diner for its sweet, sour and spicy sauce with coriander. It offers a different flavour profile from tantanmen. Kuitan Matsumoto in Kachidoki serves diners on site and also lists a lunch menu.
